Frequently Asked Questions

What is Montessori education?

Montessori education is an innovative, child-centered pedagogy that emphasizes hands-on learning, independence, and respect for a child’s natural development. It encourages children to explore, discover, and engage with materials at their own pace. More on the Montessori Method.

What age groups do you serve?

Our school, stationed at two campuses in Grimsby, offers programs for children aged 18 months to 9 years, including a Toddler Classroom (18 months – 3 years), Casa Classroom (3 – 5 years), and an Elementary Program (Grade 1-3). Learn more about Our Programs.

What is the teacher-to-student ratio?

We maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio to ensure personalized attention:

  • Toddler Classroom: 1:5
  • Casa Classroom: 1:8 (with 3-year-olds) or 1:13 (with 4- and 5-year-olds)
  • Elementary Program (Grade 1-3): 1:16

How is the curriculum structured?

Our curriculum blends Montessori materials with the Ontario Primary Curriculum, focusing on key areas such as Practical Life, Mathematics, Language, Sensorial, and Culture. This holistic approach promotes academic growth alongside social and emotional development.

What is the daily schedule like?

Our school day starts at 8:20 a.m. and finishes at 3:40 p.m. Each day includes a mix of individual work, group activities, outdoor play, and enrichment programs. Children have the freedom to choose their activities while following a structured routine that supports their learning and development.

Is food provided in the programming?

  • Junior Campus – Yes – Students receive a lunch and two snacks throughout the day. Our catering comes from Wholesome foods.
  • Main Campus – No – Students bring their own snacks and lunches from home in a lunch bag with an ice pack!

How can parents get involved?

We welcome parental involvement through volunteering opportunities, being a reading buddy, helping with school events, flower donations, sanitizing days and helping with classroom parties! We believe that a strong partnership between home and school enhances the learning experience.

Do you offer before and after-school programs?

Yes! We offer before school at both campuses as early as 7:45 a.m. For after-school, parents sign up the Friday before and register their child for days of the week they need after school. After-school is hosted at the Junior Campus, and Main Campus students are walked over each day at 3:30 p.m.
